Philippines Seeks Cheaper Feedstocks to Boost Bioethanol Production

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) are working together to increase bioethanol production in the Philippines by using cheaper and diversified feedstock.

The initiative aims to make locally produced bioethanol more competitive with imported fuel, while also protecting farmers and industries that rely on it.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said that they are studying options such as utilizing molasses and sugarcane juice, locally produced corn and palm oil to support higher bioethanol production.

The agencies are also looking at ways to reduce the costs of feedstock, maximize idle distillery capacity, and expand domestic ethanol production.
