PIL Expands Fleet with New LNG-Powered Containership Delivery
Singapore's Pacific International Lines (PIL) has expanded its fleet with the delivery of a new LNG-powered containership in China. The vessel, Kota Elan, was handed over to PIL by Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua in Shanghai on Monday.
Hudong-Zhonghua stated that the vessel was delivered 233 days ahead of the contractual delivery date, marking its third containership delivery this year. The Kota Elan features an LNG dual-fuel propulsion system and has a maximum container capacity exceeding 13,000 teu, with a range of over 22,000 nautical miles in gas mode.
The vessel is part of PIL's fleet renewal strategy aimed at modernizing its vessels, increasing competitiveness, and growing capacity. The Kota Elan will work on PIL's service connecting Asia and South America along with its sister ship Kota Elok, which was also recently delivered.
