Poland Tops Central Bank Gold Purchases in H1 2026
The World Gold Council (WGC) has released its latest data on central bank gold purchases, revealing that emerging market economies continue to drive global gold demand. Poland led the way in the first half of 2026, adding a significant 82 tonnes to its reserves.
According to the WGC, Uzbekistan ranked second with 41 tonnes, followed closely by China with 40 tonnes. Kazakhstan also increased its holdings by 27 tonnes during this period.
The Czech Republic purchased 11 tonnes of gold, while Singapore added 10 tonnes and Chile acquired 8 tonnes. Jordan and Ghana each increased their reserves by 6 tonnes.
Türkiye was the largest net seller in the first half of 2026, reducing its gold reserves by a substantial 83 tonnes. Russia also reported net gold sales totaling 44 tonnes during this period.
