Poland's Gold Reserves Hit New High Amid Short-Term Price Spike
The National Bank of Poland (Narodowy Bank Polski) has increased its gold reserves to 648 tons, according to Governor Adam Glapiński. This marks a significant milestone in the bank's efforts to bolster its currency and economy. The current gold holdings have resulted in unrealized profits amounting to 160 billion zloty, or approximately $41.6 billion.
Glapiński emphasized that increasing gold reserves helps stabilize the zloty exchange rate and enhances the credibility of the Polish economy. Poland has been one of the most aggressive buyers of gold reserves in Europe over the past few years, with Glapiński repeatedly stating that gold provides a crucial safety buffer for the economy.
In response to the announcement, international gold prices experienced a short-term spike, surging $10.42 within five minutes to $4,348.7 per ounce. The intraday decline was narrowed to 1.2% following this brief increase.
