Polish Energy Firms Pool Resources to Secure Gas Supply

Poland's energy companies are taking steps to secure their gas supply and reduce dependence on Russian imports. Four major Polish firms, Orlen, PGE, Grupa Enea, and UNIMOT, have signed an agreement to share regasification capacity at the planned FSRU 2 floating liquefied natural gas terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk.

The deal allows the companies to share delivery slots within single shipments, ensuring year-round access to regasification capacity for all participants. This slot-sharing mechanism provides flexibility and predictable gas intake, as seen in the Open Season procedure where 74% of the terminal's expanded annual capacity was allocated across the four entities.

The agreement follows the completion of the Open Season procedure in June, which allocated 58 slots across the four energy companies. Deputy Energy Minister Wojciech Wrochna highlighted that Poland's regasification capacity will reach 20 billion cubic metres by 2030, up from 5 billion cubic metres eighteen months ago.

The government's plans aim to increase total national gas import capacity to nearly 50 billion cubic metres annually by 2030. Minister of Energy Miłosz Motyka emphasized that Poland is learning its energy security lessons better than anyone else in Europe and is becoming a gas hub for the entire region.
