Polish Furniture Industry Struggles with Oil Price Surge
The Polish furniture industry is facing significant cost pressures due to rising crude oil prices and shortages of chemical raw materials. According to Michał Nowrotek, CEO of MAAG Polska, higher oil prices are driving up the cost of paints, adhesives, primers, and other petroleum-based components used in furniture production.
The shortage of these materials is forcing manufacturers to adopt alternative materials and modify their production formulas, adding further costs. This pressure comes on top of weak furniture demand, with manufacturers responding through layoffs, production closures, and cost-cutting measures.
While sales may improve after the summer holidays, a strong recovery remains uncertain for the remainder of 2026. To maintain competitiveness, operational flexibility, cost management, and rapid adaptation will be crucial.
