Prairie Provident Stabilizes Production Amid Debt Woes
Prairie Provident Resources Inc., a Calgary-based oil producer, has released its second-quarter results, which show a company struggling to stabilize its mature asset base while dealing with heavy debt. Despite these challenges, the firm managed to keep production levels steady at 2,153 barrels of oil equivalent per day, weighted 57% to liquids.
The company's operational efforts were focused on low-cost optimization work on existing wells and facilities, which helped flatten the corporate decline curve. However, this came with a heavy price tag in terms of operating costs, which climbed to $38.88 per barrel of oil equivalent.
Prairie Provident reported revenue of about $11.5 million and generated adjusted funds flow of roughly $2.2 million, or five cents per share, in the quarter. However, the company posted a net loss of about $6.3 million, or fourteen cents per share, due to high operating costs.
The most pressing issue facing Prairie Provident is its debt burden, which stands at around $73.3 million and has led to a technical default on its financial covenants. The company is now in ongoing discussions with its lender to reach a workable arrangement.
