Precious Metals Rally as US Economic Data Fails to Impress
The precious metals sector saw significant gains on August 17, driven by weaker-than-expected US economic data and lower expectations for US Fed interest rate hikes.
The US dollar index pulled back to around 99.5, providing a boost to gold and silver prices in China's futures market.
COMEX gold rose 0.48% to $4,458.7/oz, while the most-traded SHFE gold contract gained 1.05% to 955.72 yuan/g.
The most-traded platinum futures contract surged 3.37% to 436 yuan/g, with platinum gaining over 3% in the process.
