Premiers Moe and Smith Unite Against Export Taxes on Energy Exports

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has joined Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe in opposing export taxes on energy exports to the United States. Moe had already spoken out against the idea, citing its potential harm to the Saskatchewan and Canadian economies.

Smith echoed Moe's sentiments in a province-wide address, warning of disastrous consequences for Canada if it were to impose such taxes.

According to Smith, imposing a 50% tariff on Alberta's oil exports to the US would lead to retaliatory measures from the US, including tariffs on Canadian oil and natural gas imports. This could bring Ontario and Quebec economies 'to a grinding halt.'

The Premier also noted that refineries in the US would begin looking to Venezuela for alternative heavy oil sources, potentially leading to job losses of over 500,000.
