PRRD Weighs Switch to Alberta Time Zone

At the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) Committee of the Whole meeting on July 23, staff presented a report on permanent time alignment with Mountain Daylight Time for discussion.

This comes after Pouce Coupe's mayor, Danielle Veach, shared a letter with the board at the June 25 meeting seeking opinions and reactions on the region moving to the Alberta time zone.

The province announced in March that it would scrap seasonal time changes, which will take effect in the fall. Northeast B.C., including Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, operates on Mountain Standard Time year-round due to a 1973-74 referendum.

Veach argued that aligning with Alberta's time zone makes sense given many head offices have moved there and more oil and gas activity happens in Alberta than in British Columbia.
