PTT Explores Diverse LNG Sources Amid Geopolitical Disruption

Thailand's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer, PTT, is exploring new sources for LNG amid geopolitical disruption. The company relies on spot supplies to meet 50% of its demand and has boosted imports from the United States this year after exports from Qatar were severely disrupted.

PTT's chief operating officer, Bandhit Thamprajamchit, told Reuters that the company is looking at sources such as Oman, Canada, Mexico, and West Africa to diversify its portfolio. Oman's LNG exports hit an all-time high of 1.167 million metric tons in August, data from analytics firm Kpler showed.

PTT is seeking to collaborate with its partners to jointly purchase or load cargoes to reduce costs. The company aims to grow LNG demand by 10 million tons per year by 2030 and another 15 million tons per year by 2035. It is expanding its LNG import capacity to 27 million tons per year in three years' time, from about 19 million tons per year currently.
