Pune Buyers Shun Heavy Ornaments Amid High Gold, Silver Prices
Rising gold and silver prices have not deterred buyers in Pune from purchasing traditional Ganeshotsav ornaments, but they are opting for lighter and smaller pieces to manage costs. The precious-metal prices remain elevated, with gold reaching around Rs 1.55 lakh per 10g and silver touching about Rs 2.45 lakh per kg.
Jewellers in Pune have reported continued demand for traditional Ganapati ornaments, including mukuts, haars, malas, shawls, and dhotis. Customers are reducing the weight of purchases while retaining traditional designs, according to Vastupal Ranka, director at Ranka Jewellers.
Jewellers are responding by offering lightweight construction, electroforming, and customized pieces that allow buyers to control weight and cost. For example, gold Ganapati idols weighing 3-5 grams are also available, indicating a shift towards smaller-ticket festive purchases.
