Pune CNG Prices Rise Amid Global LNG Price Hike
CNG prices in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will increase by Rs 2 per kg from September 1, according to Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL). The new rate will be Rs 97.75 per kg, inclusive of all taxes.
MNGL attributed the price revision to renewed tensions in West Asia, which have disrupted the movement of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargo ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Global LNG prices have nearly doubled since July due to this disruption. MNGL sources part of its gas used for CNG through imported spot LNG and said the Rs 2 per kg increase is only a part of the rise in input costs.
CNG remains cheaper than petrol and diesel, with savings of around 45% compared to petrol and 23% compared to diesel for private cars. Autorickshaw operators will save around 25% on fuel compared to diesel.
