Punjab Government Fixes Wheat Release Price at Rs3,800 per 40kg Amid Supply Concerns
The Punjab government has set the price for wheat release at Rs3,800 per 40 kilograms in an effort to ensure uninterrupted supply of wheat and flour across the province.
This decision was made by the provincial cabinet as part of measures to prevent shortages and market disruptions.
A spokesperson for the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department said that the federal government has directed Punjab to procure wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO), with an immediate supply of 300,000 metric tons granted to the province.
The procurement price of wheat from PASSCO had been fixed at Rs4,150 per 40kg, which is higher than the release price set by the Punjab government.
The provincial cabinet's decision was aimed at maintaining a steady supply of wheat and flour in Punjab and keeping flour prices stable, as promised by the government to ensure availability of Rs15 roti for consumers.
