Putin Dangles Energy Deals as Russia-Myanmar Ties Deepen
Russia and Myanmar signed ten documents in Moscow, including a joint declaration to counter Western sanctions. President Putin welcomed Myanmar's president Min Aung Hlaing for his first official visit since taking office.
The talks focused on energy projects, with Russia offering to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Myanmar and build a nuclear power plant in the country. Putin announced that an ironworks and organic fertilizer production facility are under construction, as well as plans for a deep-water seaport on Myanmar's southern coast.
The agreements also cover trade, with Russia offering to supply mineral fertilizers, petroleum products, engineering products, and agricultural products to Myanmar. The two countries have established close military cooperation, including bilateral naval exercises and arms sales.
