Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed new initiatives to promote economic growth among BRICS nations at the recent summit. He suggested establishing an insurance mechanism and a collaborative grain market within the group.

The proposals aim to counter crippling sanctions imposed by Western powers on Moscow due to its war with Ukraine. The sanctions have severely impacted Russian crude oil exports, particularly in terms of insurance.

Putin emphasized that BRICS nations can operate independently, unaffected by outside pressure. He praised the New Development Bank (NDB), which is handling projects worth $140 billion, as a multilateral development bank established by BRICS nations.

The Russian President highlighted the importance of greater intra-BRICS economic cooperation and proposed creating a joint platform for growth within the group. This platform would combine the competitive advantages of all members, making it available to all friends, not just partners.
