Putin Warns Europe of Soaring Gas Prices Amid Ukraine Conflict
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that European natural gas prices could surge as winter approaches due to Ukraine's stepped-up attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
According to Russia's state-run TASS news agency and other Russian media, Putin said that European natural gas prices could reach up to $1,500 per 1,000 cubic meters. This would be a significant increase from the current price range of between $1,000 and 1,000 euros per 1,000 cubic meters.
Putin attributed the rising prices to the war in Ukraine and the prolonged conflict, which has driven prices higher than before. He also pointed out that European governments had initially requested fixed prices for natural gas supplies from Russia but later switched to market-based pricing, leading to fluctuations based on demand.
