Qatar LNG Vessels Resume Passage Through Hormuz, Ease Pakistan Supply Pressures
Pakistan is set to receive long-awaited liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies after a vessel carrying Qatari LNG successfully navigated through the Strait of Hormuz. The Al Marrouna, which transited the strategic waterway earlier this week, is scheduled to reach Pakistan by Thursday, according to Bloomberg's ship-tracking data.
This development comes as welcome relief for Pakistan, which has been struggling to secure LNG supplies amid geopolitical disruptions and elevated spot-market prices. The country relies heavily on its long-term LNG supply agreements with Qatar to ensure relatively stable and affordable fuel supplies.
The arrival of the Qatari vessels could ease near-term supply pressures and reduce Pakistan's exposure to volatile spot LNG prices, which have forced the country to seek emergency cargoes, alternative fuels, and potentially expensive spot-market supplies. This is particularly significant given that Pakistan did not award a tender to procure an LNG cargo for September after receiving no offers from suppliers.
