Fitch Ratings has reaffirmed Qatar's long-term issuer default rating at 'AA', highlighting the country's strong sovereign fundamentals and resilience. The assessment reflects Qatar's exceptionally high GDP per capita, large sovereign assets, flexible public finances, and strong prospects for increased natural gas production in the coming years.

The key strength identified by Fitch is Qatar's exceptionally strong sovereign balance sheet. Sovereign net foreign assets are projected at 254.2 percent of GDP at the end of 2026, providing the country with substantial financial capacity and a strong foundation for future economic growth.

Qatar is also expected to remain a net external creditor during 2026. As energy exports recover, the country's external position is projected to strengthen further, with the current-account surplus expected to approach double-digit levels as a share of GDP by 2028.
