Qatar Readies LNG Export Resurgence Amid Hormuz Tensions

Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports have been severely impacted since one of its tankers was attacked in late July. The country, which accounts for a fifth of global LNG supplies, has all but halted shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

However, recent ship-tracking data suggests that Qatar may be positioning itself to resume exports through this critical waterway. According to Bloomberg's Kpler data, six empty gas carriers linked to Qatar are currently in the Gulf of Oman or on their way there, while another empty ship recently crossed the Strait and is now heading back toward Qatar.

The move could indicate that Qatar is taking a more aggressive approach to resuming exports despite ongoing tensions between the US and Iran. The lack of Qatari LNG has led to elevated prices in Asia and Europe, particularly for price-sensitive South Asian buyers who are struggling with shortages and power blackouts.

QatarEnergy did not respond to a request for comment outside of normal business hours.
