Qatar Reopens LNG Flow Through Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Tensions

Qatar has resumed shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the Strait of Hormuz after a three-week pause following an attack on one of its tankers. The Al Areesh tanker, which was damaged in the July 7 incident, is now bound for Pakistan, where it will help meet the country's energy needs.

QatarEnergy had paused production at the world's largest LNG plant after the attack, but with deliveries resuming, the company may be able to increase output. More than a dozen tankers are waiting near Ras Laffan, suggesting QatarEnergy is preparing to resume broader LNG deliveries through the strait.

The recent escalation of tensions between the US and Iran has raised concerns that LNG flows through the Strait of Hormuz will remain compromised. The two countries have been involved in a months-long conflict, with attacks taking place on both sides. Despite efforts to advance talks to end the conflict, a lull was brief, and strikes have continued.
