Qatar Seeks to Turn Mexico into Latin America's Energy Powerhouse
Qatar has set its sights on Mexico as part of an ambitious plan to turn it into an energy and industrial power in Latin America. Through a trade mission and bilateral meetings, both countries are exploring a strategic alliance around natural gas, technology, and infrastructure.
The approach is led by the Mexican Energy Council (COMENER), headed by engineer Juan Acra, as part of the Qatar-Mexico Trade Mission 2026. The focus is on strengthening energy cooperation and exploring opportunities for technological development and infrastructure.
Qatar brings decades of investment in innovation and logistics in the liquefied natural gas market, making it a key player globally. The underlying idea is that knowledge and capital will translate into concrete projects that strengthen Mexico's position within the global energy market.
