QatarEnergy LNG Carrier Navigates Strait of Hormuz Amid Regional Tensions

The QatarEnergy LNG carrier Al Areesh has successfully navigated through the Strait of Hormuz, marking a significant development in regional tensions. The vessel, built in 2007 and sailing under the Bahamas flag with management by Seapea Maritime, was observed in the Gulf of Oman after loading at Qatar's Ras Laffan terminal in early July.

Data from Kpler indicates that the Al Areesh had been holding near Qatar before beginning its movement on July 29. Iran's Fars News Agency reported that an unnamed Qatari LNG carrier had received permission to make the transit, amid Iran's efforts to control the Strait of Hormuz.

The vessel is bound for Pakistan, a major customer of Qatar and a key mediator in peace talks between Iran and the United States. Pakistan has faced energy shortages since the start of the war and has taken steps to reduce demand, buying LNG on the spot market at significantly higher prices to offset some of the shortfall.

QatarEnergy did not comment on the vessel's movement. The company had previously sent only one cargo aboard the Al Rayyan on July 9, two days after the Al Rekayyat was struck while attempting the transit.
