QatarEnergy Seeks US Gas Supplies Amid Iran War Disruptions

QatarEnergy is seeking alternative sources of gas to supply its customers after the Iran war disrupted its ability to move shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. The state-owned company is in talks with US suppliers under long-term agreements, according to people familiar with the matter.

The discussions mark a significant shift for QatarEnergy as it explores options outside the Middle East to expand its portfolio. Before the war erupted in late February, Qatar was advancing plans to nearly double production from the Ras Laffan LNG export plant by 2030.

The facility, the world's largest, was damaged by an Iranian strike in the early weeks of the conflict. This has forced QatarEnergy to seek alternative sources to satisfy its customers' demand for gas.
