QatarEnergy Seeks US LNG Deals Through 2031 Amid Ongoing Disruption
QatarEnergy is negotiating with several US LNG producers to secure multi-year contracts through 2031, sources say. The company is seeking replacements for lost volumes from its Ras Laffan facility after Iranian attacks damaged two of its 14 LNG trains and a gas-to-liquids facility in March.
The discussions include Venture Global, Cheniere, and Woodside, with QatarEnergy Trading looking to purchase 2-3 million metric tons per annum through 2031. This marks a shift from the company's previous reliance on spot LNG cargoes to meet commitments to Asian clients.
QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi said in March that repairs would sideline 12.8 million tons of LNG capacity for three to five years, with production halted and force majeure notices renewed monthly.
