Qatari LNG Cargo Arrives in Pakistan via Strait of Hormuz
A cargo ship carrying approximately 82,000 metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar arrived at Port Qasim in Karachi on Thursday morning. The LNG shipment is the first to reach Pakistan via the Strait of Hormuz since July.
The last Qatar-origin LNG cargo was received by Islamabad on July 11, but the scheduled deliveries had been disrupted due to regional tensions. According to Asad Altaf, a spokesman for Port Qasim, the fresh shipment was procured under a government-to-government arrangement with Qatar.
Altaf stated that the arrival of this LNG cargo will boost Pakistan's LNG supplies and provide temporary relief to the power sector. The country has been experiencing power outages due to soaring fuel prices, which have been exacerbated by hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz.
