Qatari LNG Shipment Arrives in Port Qasim Amid Regional Tensions
A shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar has arrived in Pakistan, easing supply concerns. The Al Marrouna vessel carried approximately 82,000 tonnes of LNG from Qatar's Ras Laffan terminal and docked at the Engro LNG Terminal at Port Qasim on Thursday morning.
This marks the first Qatar-origin LNG cargo for Pakistan through the Strait of Hormuz since July 11. The shipment was procured under a government-to-government arrangement with Qatar, which is expected to improve LNG availability and provide some temporary relief to Pakistan's power sector.
Pakistan has been experiencing power outages due to elevated fuel prices and disruptions linked to the situation around the Strait of Hormuz. The country has also introduced a daily fuel price mechanism in response to volatility in international crude oil markets, which has triggered protests from several political parties.
