Qatari LNG Tanker Redirected Through Strait of Hormuz Amid Security Concerns

A Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker, Al Areesh, has been transiting through the Strait of Hormuz after being idling in the Persian Gulf since early July. The ship was ordered to pause its voyage by Iran and is now near the Port of Muscat in Oman.

The US has denied any involvement in redirecting the vessel's route. The LNG shipment, destined for Pakistan, was delayed due to security concerns after one of Qatar's tankers was attacked in the waterway over three weeks ago.

Pakistan relies on Qatar for nearly all its imports of LNG and has paid over $400 million since February to procure shipments on a spot basis. The country negotiated with Iran to secure safe passage for at least one Qatari shipment.
