Qatar's LNG Exports May Restart After Tanker Passes Strait of Hormuz

Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports may be restarting after a tanker was struck in late July, according to recent developments. A ship carrying LNG from Qatar, the Al Maruna, has passed through the Strait of Hormuz and exited the Persian Gulf, which could signal the resumption of Qatari LNG exports.

The Al Maruna loaded LNG in Qatar earlier this month and is bound for Pakistan's Port Qasim, with a scheduled arrival date of October 10th. Several other Qatari carriers without LNG cargo have also been spotted returning to the Persian Gulf, suggesting that Qatar may be resuming exports through the Strait of Hormuz.

This development comes after Qatar halted exports through the Strait of Hormuz in late July due to security concerns. The country accounted for about one-fifth of global LNG export volumes until passage through the strait was blocked by the Iran war in February.
