Qatar's LNG Exports on Track for Resumption Amid Hormuz Transit
Qatar's LNG exports may be on the verge of resuming after months of uncertainty. The Al Maruna, a Qatari LNG carrier, has successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz and is en route to Pakistan's Port Qasim, according to Bloomberg.
The vessel loaded LNG in Qatar early last month and is scheduled to arrive on 9 September, just two days after its expected arrival date. This development raises hopes that Qatar will resume LNG exports through the strategic waterway, which was suspended following a tanker attack in late July.
Qatar's decision to suspend LNG shipments had a significant impact on global markets, with the country accounting for around one-fifth of global LNG export volumes before the strait was blocked. To mitigate the disruption, Qatar informed European and Asian buyers that it would extend its force majeure period under LNG supply contracts through October.
While the resumption of LNG exports is a positive sign, uncertainty over supply disruptions persists, keeping LNG prices elevated.
