Rand Paul Verifies Fort Knox Gold Reserves Amid Ongoing Conspiracy Theory
A long-standing conspiracy theory suggests that Fort Knox, a gold depository in Kentucky, may not contain its declared amount of gold. Recently, Republican Senator Rand Paul visited the vault and claimed to have seen all 147 million ounces of gold stored there.
The tour was part of Paul's efforts to verify the government's claims about the gold reserves. The senator emphasized that the dollar has lost significant value since the Federal Reserve's establishment in 1913, stating that 'gold does not expand when Congress spends. Paper does.' He also noted that the Fed absorbs a third of Washington's $2 trillion annual deficits.
The total worth of Fort Knox's gold reserves is estimated to be around $6.2 billion based on the official valuation of $42.22 per ounce, but if valued at today's price, it would be approximately $644 billion.
