Rand Rebounds as Oil Prices Plummet on Diplomatic Breakthrough
The South African rand has made a significant recovery to 16.70 per US dollar after hitting an over three-month low of 16.98 last week.
This improvement in value comes as oil prices have fallen sharply following the easing of tensions between the US and Iran, which has triggered a surge in global risk appetite.
Brent crude prices plummeted from two-month highs after Washington and Tehran paused hostilities, raising hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
Last week's unexpected decision by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged also contributed to the rand's weakness, with the currency losing 2% against the dollar.
