RBI Exit Window Triggers Gold Selling Pressure Amid Record Prices

The Reserve Bank of India has opened an exit window for holders of Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) issued between June 2019 and March 2022. The premature redemption calendar, released on August 21, 2026, allows investors to redeem their bonds from October 2026 to March 2027.

The gold market is currently trading near record highs, which may encourage investors to lock in their gains rather than wait until maturity. With the option to exit early, some SGB holders may take advantage of current prices and sell their gold holdings.

While the redemption window itself may not directly impact gold prices, the resulting shift in investor flows could add to market volatility. This, in turn, may pose short-term risks to risk-on assets such as cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance (DeFi) liquidity.
