RBI Sets ₹15,334 Redemption Price for SGB 2021-22 Series VI Bonds
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set the premature redemption price for Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) 2021-22 Series VI at ₹15,334 per unit. This is significantly higher than the original issue price.
For investors who bought SGBs online and paid digitally, the discounted issue price was ₹4,682 per gram, while others paid ₹4,732 per gram.
An investor who put ₹1 lakh into the SGB at the discounted issue price would have purchased about 21.36 units, which are now worth approximately ₹3.28 lakh, representing a price gain of over 227% in just five years.
The premature redemption price is not linked to the original issue price but rather determined by the prevailing price of gold. For SGB Series VI, the relevant gold prices were those published for September 2-4, 2026, which resulted in the ₹15,334 per-unit redemption price.
