RCF, GAIL Unveil ₹?? Billion Urea Plant in Maharashtra
India's domestic urea production is getting a boost as state-run Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd. (RCF) and GAIL (India) Ltd. have joined forces to develop a new gas-based urea manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
The project, which will have an annual production capacity of 1.27 million tonnes (MTPA), will be executed through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
The proposed plant is strategically positioned along GAIL's Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline (MNJPL), ensuring a reliable supply of natural gas, the primary feedstock for urea production.
India has been witnessing widening demand-supply gaps in urea, with domestic production declining to 293.26 lakh tonnes during FY2025-26, compared to 306.67 lakh tonnes in the previous fiscal year.
