Gas prices have reached a record high for the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to AAA's weekly report. The national average price per gallon is $4.14, surpassing the previous record of $3.82 set in 2012.

In the Gainesville area, the average gas price is $4.01 per gallon, up two cents from last week, while Florida's statewide average rose to $3.98 per gallon.

The high crude oil prices near $90 per barrel and reduced gasoline supply are keeping gas prices elevated despite declining demand since late August.
