Record-High Gas Prices Hit Oregon Labor Day Travelers

A record-high gas price has hit Oregon's Labor Day travelers. The national average for regular unleaded gasoline topped $4 per gallon during the holiday weekend, a first in history, according to AAA.

Oregon's average gas price is $4.99 per gallon, which is more than $1 higher than last year's $3.98 average at this time. The sharp increase is being driven by a 36% spike in global oil prices amid the conflict with Iran, where crude oil prices climbed above $90 a barrel.

Cory, a Beaverton resident, stopped to fuel up his pickup truck before heading to Spokane and Yellowstone for a road trip. Despite the higher prices, Cory said the cost of fuel won't keep him from enjoying one last road trip before summer ends.
