Regis Walks Away from Vault Deal Amid $5.6 Billion Genesis Bid
Regis Resources (ASX:RRL) surprised investors by walking away from its proposed deal for Vault Minerals (VAU), which Genesis Minerals (GMD) had outbid with a $5.6 billion offer.
The company chose not to match the Genesis bid, valuing Vault at about A$5.274 per share, and instead pocketed a consolation cheque of around A$50.7 million.
Regis' decision was seen as prudent, given its strong balance sheet and production base, which allowed it to ride out the gold price cycle without taking on debt.
The company's management team had spent two years rebuilding its fortress balance sheet, ending FY26 with A$1.18 billion in cash and bullion and no debt.
