Reservoir Link Eyes Bigger Role in Malaysia's Liberalised Gas Market
Reservoir Link Energy Bhd is positioning itself to capitalise on Malaysia's liberalised gas market after becoming one of the few listed companies to hold both a gas shipping licence and an LNG import licence.
The oilfield services company joins a small group of Bursa Malaysia-listed firms, including Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Gas Malaysia Bhd, Uzma Bhd, and Destini Bhd, whose subsidiaries hold both licences under the country's third-party access (TPA) framework.
Reservoir Link executive director Thien Chiet Chai said the dual licences give the company an edge over listed peers that only hold a gas shipping licence.
'A gas shipping licence enables the delivery of gas through the existing distribution network, which generally serves industrial customers,' he told Business Times.
He added that the LNG import licence allows them to source LNG cargoes internationally and sell directly to large off-takers such as gas-fired power plants.
The company is looking to leverage future RGT developments, including Petronas' planned terminal in Lumut and Gas Malaysia's proposed terminal in Yan, to supply gas directly to power producers.
