Reservoir Link Eyes Gas Market Dominance with Dual Licenses
Reservoir Link Energy Bhd is well-positioned to take advantage of Malaysia's liberalized gas market, thanks to its dual licenses as a gas shipping and liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer. This allows the oilfield services company to participate across the entire gas value chain, from sourcing LNG overseas to delivering it directly to end customers.
The dual licenses also enable Reservoir Link to supply gas to industrial customers under the third party access (TPA) framework and create longer-term opportunities through upcoming regasification terminal infrastructure. Thien Chiet Chai, executive director of Reservoir Link, said the company is looking to leverage future developments, including Petronas' planned terminal in Lumut and Gas Malaysia's proposed terminal in Yan.
Malaysia's gas market is becoming increasingly liberalized, with data centre investments driving demand for reliable large-scale power generation. Thien noted that securing LNG supply remains the biggest hurdle in commercializing the licenses, as global competition for cargoes is intense.
