Resolution Copper Awards $110M US Mining Contracts Amid Growing Demand
Resolution Copper has awarded $110 million in US mining contracts to two specialist contractors as it works towards developing its massive underground copper mine in Arizona. The project, a joint venture between Rio Tinto and BHP, aims to supply up to 25% of the country's copper demand for multiple decades.
The mine is located in the Copper Triangle, approximately 60 miles east of Phoenix, and is expected to create significant engineering challenges due to its depth. The primary mineralisation sits at around 6,800-7,000 feet below the surface, making it one of the deepest proposed copper mines in North American history.
The $110 million contract structure reflects a deliberate risk-staged capital allocation approach, where exploration delineation and physical infrastructure development proceed in parallel rather than sequentially. This compresses the project timeline without overcommitting capital before key technical and regulatory milestones are confirmed.
