Retail Investors Snap Up Precious Metals Amid Price Decline

Retail investors are buying up precious metals as prices decline, according to data from the Royal Mint. The mint reported that demand for its digital gold and silver products increased by 30% in the second quarter compared to the same period last year.

Investments in Digital Gold rose 14%, while Digital Silver saw a surge of 162%. Physical silver bullion purchases also rose significantly, with the value increasing 85% year-over-year. The Royal Mint noted that prices have held support around $55 an ounce for silver but remain down nearly 53% from their January highs.

The mint's data suggests retail investors are returning to the market as prices soften. Stuart O'Reilly, Private Wealth Consultant at The Royal Mint, said, 'It's natural that many investors chose to pause and wait for a more attractive entry point, and that's exactly what we saw for much of the quarter.'

O'Reilly added, 'While interest rate expectations have created some short-term pressure on gold prices, the longer-term investment case remains compelling.' He pointed out that central bank buying, geopolitical uncertainty, fiscal pressures, and portfolio diversification continue to provide structural support for precious metals.
