Rice Prices Hit 10-Month High Amid Supply Constraints
Indian rice export prices have surged to a 10-month high due to tight supply and renewed demand. According to Whalesbook, the price of 5% broken parboiled rice has reached $358-$364 per tonne as of late July 2026. This represents a steady climb from the previous week's range of $356-$361.
The limited availability of domestic paddy is driving this price trend, with higher procurement prices increasing the cost base for exporters. Traders are closely watching the new-season crop progress, and any concerns regarding production volumes could keep prices at elevated levels.
Despite the price rise, Indian rice continues to attract international buyers, with export volume growing 5% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. However, basmati exports faced headwinds due to regional trade disruptions in the Gulf, while higher shipments of non-basmati varieties supported overall export growth.
For investors in rice processing and export companies, monitoring how these price movements affect profit margins is crucial. Companies with strong inventory management or those that can pass on costs to international buyers are better positioned to protect their earnings.
