RLNG Shortage Sparks Up To Three-Hour Night-Time Power Cuts In Pakistan
Pakistan's power sector is facing a temporary crisis due to delays in the arrival of Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) cargoes, leading to a shortage of up to 3,600 megawatts (MW) of electricity generation.
The Power Division has implemented load management measures during peak night-time hours, resulting in temporary power outages lasting between one-and-a-half to three hours. Furnace-oil-based power plants are being operated to help meet demand and minimize the impact of the RLNG shortage.
The situation is expected to improve once the delayed RLNG cargoes arrive, but consumers are urged to moderate their power consumption during night-time peak hours to reduce the need for temporary load management. The Power Division has clarified that no load management is being carried out during daytime hours due to the temporary RLNG shortage.
