Rokan Oil Block Faces 30% Annual Decline Without Aggressive Drilling

The Rokan oil block in Indonesia is facing significant production decline due to aggressive drilling requirements. According to PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) director Muhammad Arifin, the baseline output of 200,000 barrels per day could drop by nearly a third within a year without adequate drilling efforts.

The Rokan zone drills nearly 500 wells annually, the highest tally in Indonesia. Zone 4 in South Sumatra and Zone 1 stretching from North Sumatra to Jambi also contribute significantly to the country's drilling activities.

Arifin emphasized that the tension between operational constraints and state budget targets set by upstream regulator SKK Migas can create a dynamic where fiscal demands rarely align perfectly. However, he acknowledged the motivational effect of these demands.
