Romania's Agriculture Industry Thrives as Grain Exports Reach New Heights

Romania's agriculture industry plays a significant role in the European Union (EU), employing almost one-third of the EU's farms, 8.1% of its utilized agricultural area, and 3.3% of the EU's standard output, according to the Organization for Cooperation and Development (OECD).

With about 12% of Romanians employed in agricultural-related activities, the sector accounts for 3.3% of the country's gross domestic product, the largest within the EU.

The OECD report notes that Romania has a dual-structured agriculture industry, with large farms and smaller, uncompetitive farms. About 90% of farms are smaller than five hectares, while a small group of large farms (less than 1%) own more than half the agricultural land.
