Romania's Port Priority Shift Sparks Farmer Protests
Romanian farmers are expressing discontent over the priority given to Ukrainian grain at Romanian ports. They claim that all rail transport from Romania's northeastern regions has been reserved for transporting grain of Ukrainian origin, leaving them unable to meet delivery deadlines under their contracts.
According to a report by ukragroconsult, using road transport is not economically viable as it would double logistics costs. This has led to protests among Romanian farmers against the lack of transparency in the decision-making process and uncertainty surrounding their own grain exports.
The situation arises as Romania remains one of the few reliable sources of agricultural products shipped by sea to the eastern Black Sea region, with other major exporters facing new military restrictions during the peak season for rapeseed, barley, and wheat exports.
