Rosneft Starts Shipping Oil from Arctic Vostok Megaproject
Rosneft has made history by shipping its first crude oil from the Vostok Oil megaproject in the Russian Arctic. The project, which consolidates several large deposits across northern Krasnoyarsk Territory, is expected to offset declines at mature fields and expand shipments along the Northern Sea Route to buyers in Asia.
The initial cargo was loaded onto the Valentin Pikul, an Arc7-class ice-capable tanker, at the newly built Bukhta Sever terminal. Rosneft has invested 4 trillion rubles ($46.53 billion) to date, with all equipment sourced from Russian manufacturers.
Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin stated that Vostok Oil is expected to deliver 30 million tonnes to global markets in the second half of 2027, rising to 50 million tonnes annually by 2030. This would equate to roughly 1 million barrels per day, or about 10% of Russia's current crude production.
