Rupee Climbs on Oil Price Drop as RBI Policy Decision Looms
The Indian rupee appreciated by 46 paise to trade at 94.92 against the US dollar on August 5, 2026, as global Brent crude oil prices dipped below $80 per barrel.
This strengthening of the local currency comes as lower oil prices reduce the foreign exchange needed for energy imports and ease inflationary pressure in India.
Market attention is focused on the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, which will announce its decision today. Most analysts expect the central bank to maintain the repo rate at 5.25 percent.
