Russia Deploys New Icebreaker to Bypass Western Gas Sanctions

Russia has deployed a new icebreaking tanker to transport liquefied natural gas despite Western sanctions. The vessel, 'Konstantin Posiet,' set sail from Velikiy Kamen Bay in Primorsky Krai and is intended to support the Russian 'Arctic LNG-2' project.

The tanker was built at the Zvezda shipbuilding complex and belongs to the Arc7 class, capable of breaking through ice up to two meters thick. It is expected to arrive at its destination on August 30, although its exact destination remains unknown.

This move by Russia comes as a response to Western restrictions on gas exports. The 'Arctic LNG-2' project was subject to U.S. sanctions, but Moscow is attempting to circumvent these restrictions through the deployment of this new tanker.
